Satyananda Yoga is a traditional integrated style which includes movements/postures, breath practices with relaxation/concentration techniques.
YOGA PRACTICES TAUGHT
Asanas (yogic postures) practiced with awareness, gently and non-competitively. The asanas work on the physical body, gently stretching and toning the muscles and organs, stimulating the nervous system, improving health and flexibility.
Pranayama (breathing practices) control, expand and balance the breath to calm and relax the mind and emotions as breath is the link between body and mind.
Yoga Nidra is a simple guided meditation practice which promotes very deep relaxation. Half an hour of yoga nidra is as restful as as two hours of normal sleep. Download this PDF for more information about Yoga Nidra.
Meditation is introduced after introductory classes including theory and practice, leading to inner stillness, balance and harmony.
Regular practice of these techniques not only greatly aids in the maintenance of good physical and mental health by reducing stress, but also brings about a sense of profound personal wellbeing.
SATYANANDA YOGA® is the tradition of yoga developed by Swami Satyananda who founded the International Yoga Fellowship in 1956 and the Bihar School of Yoga in 1963. Over the next 20 year period he toured internationally, including visits to Australia, and authored over 80 books. In 1984 he founded Sivananda Math, a charitable institution for aiding rural development, and the Yoga Research Foundation. After following his guru’s mission of spreading yoga from door to door and shore to shore, he left his body in 2009.
In 1988 Swami Satyananda passed on the overall co-ordination and management of SATYANANDA YOGA® worldwide to Swami Niranjananda. Swami Satyasangananda (Satsangi) is the inspirational leader of Sivananda Math and Rikhiapeeth.
